Of course I would want to find my own example of cliffs and animated sea. The ideal thing would be to find another comparable subject, but one that is unique in composition and color.
This puts a more dramatic Olympics profile in front of Sunset 1, and adds a ferry in the distance. This should be viewed as primarily conceptual, as the colors would need to be adjusted and integrated. If you hover over the image, you can see a different take on the ferry’s position and orientation.
These were taken on a boat ride between Everett and Kingston. I’m not sure of the exact location. There are two views. If you hover over the image you’ll see the view without the ferry. This composition would probably work better if the water were more turbulent.
This is also my own photograph, taken from a rooftop in Pioneer Square. The dynamic clouds and brilliant color of the sky are offset by the somber darks of the city and piers.
This subject ties in with your Shin Hanga prints by Hiroshi Yoshida, in that the darkness tends to flatten out the shapes and simplify the value structure. Example 3, Pink Sky, also has affinities with Shin Hanga, both in color, subject and composition.
